I'm glad you took some time out of your day to check out this blog. I had actually started it back in 2009, however never really g0t it going. I finally decided to re-visit it and bring it back to life.
If you've read my little "bio" you know that I created this blog as a way of organizing my vast array of fantasy hockey thoughts together and hopefully get some great feedback from other poolies, either pros or newcomers.
These blogs will focus on Yahoo! Fantasy Hockey leagues only. My main interests are Head-to-Head keeper leagues, but non-keepers and dynasties can also be discussed.
I have been in Yahoo! leagues since 2002, and keepers since 2006. I'm currently in 3 keeper leagues, one of which I am the commissioner. All three are very competitive, and a ton of fun. I'm also in several non-keepers on a year to year basis as well, just to keep things fresh.
Now that you know a little bit about me and what I do, I'll get right into my first topic, as it is one that's upon us right now (either starting last Monday, or this coming Monday, depending on league settings). That's right, I'm talking about H2H playoffs!
In one of my keeper leagues i put up a 19-2 season (if were just talking wins vs losses) or 132-59-19 in total points. I think anyone would agree this was a whale of a year and one destined for playoff glory.
Apparently not.
With Fleury (5 GA vs NYR) and Niemi (4 GA in half game vs CHI) putting up stinkers this week, I'm on a verge of a first round exit (barring a huge late-Sunday surge). This makes me wonder like I have many times in the past... Is there a better system for the playoffs?
Case and point: I've dominated all year long to secure that #1 seed, and since we are in an 8 team playoff format I receive no bye week. This means that going into the first round of the playoffs I have no advantage over the 8th place team. In the NHL (as with most sports) the higher ranked team would get the home advantage in such matchups.
Do you think Yahoo! should try and figure this in somehow?
One idea I had was to have the higher ranked team be able to cut one stat out of the equation prior to the start of the week. i.e. if I see that my opponent usually puts up great 'assist' numbers, I could eliminate that stat. This at least give me a bit of a "home advantage" and gives a little more meaning to the 21 week regular season.
What do you guys think? Does something like this make sense? Do you have a better idea? Or is it perfect the way it is and I'm just bitter about my shitty goaltending in the clutch?
I've love to hear as many opinions as possible! Leave your comments below about this topic or suggest a topic you'd like to see me cover in a future entry!
Thanks guys!!
